With the right prep, swimming is completely manageable for keratin bond clients.

Brush from the ends upward using a soft-bristle or loop brush — never from the root. Wash with a sulfate-free shampoo, applying it in a downward motion rather than scrubbing. Avoid applying conditioner or oil directly to the bonds. Sleep with your hair in a loose braid or low ponytail to prevent tangling overnight. Avoid saltwater and chlorine without a protective leave-in or swim cap. Your specialist will walk you through a complete care routine at your install appointment.

Yes, with one important precaution: use a blow dryer to dry the bond area and the root section first. Once the bonds are dry, you can allow the length to air dry naturally if you prefer. Prolonged dampness near the keratin bonds can weaken the attachment over time and increase the risk of tangling. A quick pass with the blow dryer at the roots keeps your bonds healthy and extends their longevity significantly.

Your natural hair can continue growing while you wear extensions. Excessive pulling can damage hair and follicles, so the weight, placement and maintenance of an installation matter. Extensions do not make hair grow faster. Tell your specialist promptly about pain, persistent pulling or breakage.
